The Reverend Frank Cubby was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Alex Cubby, March 20, 1901 in Columbus, Georgia. He was converted in the year 1922 on a glorious TUESDAY evening in Tifton, Ga. under the leadership of the Reverend Cain Whitaker and baptized into the Missionary Baptist faith.
In 1923, he moved his family to St. Petersburg, Florida and joined the Mt. Zion Progressive Baptist Church. He was called to preach and ordained in the late 1920’s. He was called to pastor the St. John Baptist Church in 1935 and remained there until he was inspired by the Holy Spirit to establish the Galilee Baptist Church, which he organized with one member on February 14, 1940.
For years Rev. Cubby labored and toiled to make Galilee grow. His work was never in vain as God truly blessed the Church to grow continuously. As years went by the location of Galilee was maintained on its present site and Rev. Cubby’s life long dream had been fulfilled. This is the place, he once said, that God had shown him. He often preached that he was to remain serving his people until God saw fit to call him home. And he did just that! He preached God’s word far and near until the Master called him home.
Many throughout these United States knew him for his evangelistic style preaching. He conducted many revivals and many souls were won to Christ. Many pastors of the city were ordained under his Christian guidance. He was extremely proud of his “Sons” in Christ.
Rev. Cubby was a faithful worker in the Ministers and Deacons Union, the Union Foreign Association, and the State and National Baptist Conventions. He never failed to represent Galilee in any of the functions of those conventions. He was proud to serve for 14 years as President of the No. 1 Congress of Ministers and Deacons; as First Vice-Moderator of Union Foreign Association from 1970 to 1975. In November 1975, he was elected Moderator-Emeritus of Union Foreign Association. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias No. 105 and Pallbearers Lodge No. 30, both of St. Petersburg.
The Reverend Frank Cubby was called to his final resting place Sunday morning, May 16, 1976.
