Our Pastor

Dr. Julius L. Wynn, Sr.

Reverend Dr. Julius L. Wynn, Sr., became Galilee’s new pastor in an election on December 29, 2022.  He will be the 5th pastor to lead the congregation since its establishment in 1940.

Reverend Wynn was born and raised in Sanford, Florida and graduated from Sanford Seminole High School.  His parents were the late Lawrence and Adele Wynn. He is the third youngest of fourteen children. He accepted Jesus as his personal savior and was baptized at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church in Sanford in 1975. He received the Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University, the Master of Arts degree from the University of South Florida, and the Doctor of Education degree from the University of South Florida.  He completed further studies in Theology at Florida Beacon Bible College in Largo, Florida. He was licensed to preach in August 1989. He was ordained into the Ministry in March 1991.

Dr. Wynn previously served for 27 plus years as pastor of Highland Missionary Baptist Church in Tampa, Florida.  Currently he serves as Personal Secretary to Dr. Bartholomew Banks, President of the Progressive Missionary and Educational Baptist State Convention of Florida, Chairman of the Home Mission Board for Progressive Missionary and Educational Baptist State Convention of Florida and as a Home Mission Board Member of the National Baptist Convention of America International, Inc. Dr. Wynn gives credit for his ecclesiastically accomplishments to his Father in the Ministry, Reverend James Lee and the former pastor of the St. Matthew 1st MBC – Clearwater. He also remembers his two mentors that have moved from mortal to immortality, Reverend James C. Sims, and Reverend David L. Swackard, Sr.

Dr. Wynn is a Senior Core faculty professor at the American College of Education and an adjunct professor of Ethics and the Teaching of Diverse Populations in Education at St. Petersburg College.  He retired in July 2022 from a 35-year career as a teacher of Mathematics and as Assistant Principal for the Pinellas County School Board. He is a lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

He has been married to Mrs. Tonya Warren Wynn for almost 37 years.  They are the proud parents of one son, Julius Jr., two daughters, Valua and Carmilla and the grandparents of six, Kaleb, Trinity, Levi, Treasure, Troy Jr., and Tristen. His first granddaughter, Tory passed the day she was born and his dog, Junior died at 10.5 years old.

The congregation of Galilee welcomed Dr. Julius L. Wynn, Sr. for his first official sermon as pastor-elect on February 5, 2023. He has shared his goal for Galilee is that he would lose them as members, and they become disciples for Jesus Christ.
